CALIFORNIA (Nov. 4) – Senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and junior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) each scored twice and combined for three assists on Friday morning to help lead the No. 4 Vulcans to a 5-1 win over Edinboro in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 17-0-2 this year and advances to the PSAC Championship for a second-straight year. The Vulcans will host No. 17 Kutztown tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 5, in the title game at 4 p.m. The Golden Bears advanced to the championship by registering a 4-0 win against No. 22 Slippery Rock.

With her goals on Friday, Work tied the single-season-school record of 19 shared by Sherry Valera (1994) and Amanda Heister (2009). Robinson now ranks fourth in single-season school history with 17 goals after playing the last three years at Hartford (Conn.)

Work also moved past Kim Kottmeaier (1992-95) for fourth place in school history with 31 career goals.

The Vulcans took a quick 1-0 lead when Work scored off a feed from Robinson less than two minutes into the game. Cal U added to its lead at the 16:21-mark when senior Kristen Orrett (Pickering, Ontario/Pickering) converted a penalty kick after Robinson was tripped by the Fighting Scots starting goalkeeper, who received a red card on the play.

Orrett has now tallied a career-high seven goals this season after going 4-for-4 on penalty kicks. Prior to the game, she received the inaugural PSAC Champion Scholar Award that honors the student-athlete with the top GPA competing at a championship site.

After halftime, Robinson scored off an assist from freshman Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) in the 48th minute to expand the lead to 3-0. Hogan now leads the team with 10 assists this year and is only the fifth player in school history with double-digit assists in a season.

Edinboro cut into the deficit at the 56:49-mark when Steph Tighe scored on a free kick. The Vulcans then responded with two goals in less than a two-minute span with Work tallying her record-tying goal off a pass from Robinson in the 68th minute. Robinson then posted her second goal of the game with an assist from Work at the 69:00-mark.

Senior Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) made four saves to earn her 16th win of the season. Edinboro's Meghan Kelly finished with seven saves while playing 73-plus minutes following the red card.

Cal U out-shot Edinboro by a 19-8 margin, including a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal, and the Vulcans also posted a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

With the loss, the Fighting Scots fall to 15-5-0 after advancing to the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament for the second time in school history.
