No. 3 Vulcans tally win over Mansfield, 3-0

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 7) – Freshman Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) posted a goal and an assist on Friday afternoon to help the No. 3 Vulcans earn a 3-0 win over Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Hubert Jack Stadium.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 8-0-2 overall with a 6-0-2 mark in league play. Meanwhile, Mansfield suffers its eighth-consecutive loss to fall to 1-8 this season and 0-7 in conference action.

Playing without their leading scorer, the Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) posted her ninth goal of the year off an assist from Crockett. Cal U added to its lead in the closing minutes of the first period when sophomore Kelsey Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) registered her second goal of the season off a feed from junior Kayla Fransko (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) from 35 yards out at the 42:43-mark.

Following halftime, Crockett extended the lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute when her third goal of the year (unassisted).

Senior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust), the reining PSAC Athlete of the Week, registered her 30th career shutout (fifth of the season) after playing all 90 minutes on Friday. Mansfield's Alexis Wilhelm finished the game with 12 saves in 70-plus minutes of action.

The Vulcans controlled the pace of play, out-shooting the Mountaineers by a staggering 37-2 margin with a 19-0 advantage in shots on goal. Cal U also posted a 6-1 edge in corner kicks at Hubert Jack Stadium.

Cal U continues its PSAC weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 8, when they travel to face Kutztown at 2 p.m. The Vulcans won both meetings against the Golden Bears last year, including a 1-0 victory in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament.
