No. 4 Women's Soccer tops Shippensburg, 4-1

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 29) – The No. 4 Vulcans completed the first unbeaten regular season in program history following a 4-1 win over Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at the new Soccer Facility on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team finishes the regular season with a 15-0-2 overall record and a 12-0-2 mark in league action. The top-seeded Vulcans will now host eighth-seeded Bloomsburg in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Meanwhile, Shippensburg finishes the year with a 5-10-3 mark.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) scored her 15th goal of the season with assists from fellow seniors Sara Di Benedetto (Maple, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic) and Kelsey Fisher (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland). Shippensburg tied the game at the 36:22-mark when Michal Sanders scored an unassisted goal, 1-1.

Following the break, junior Kayla Fransko (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) posted her second goal (unassisted) of the year in the 54th minute. Senior Kristen Orrett (Pickering, Ontario/Pickering) recorded her career-high sixth goal of the season at the 65:44-mark off feeds from fellow seniors Darija Davidson (Courtice, Ontario/St. Stephen's) and Jodi McDonald (Ajax, Ontario/Ajax). In the 81st minute, senior Kayla Klimasko (Mississauga, Ontario/Woodlands Secondary) tallied her first goal of the year with an assist from Fransko.

Senior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) made one save on Saturday to register the 50th win of her career. Red Raiders' Samantha Wood suffered the loss after allowing four goals and making six saves in nearly 83 minutes of action.

Cal U out-shot Shippensburg by a 20-6 margin after taking 10 shots in each period, while both teams attempted three corner kicks.
