CALIFORNIA (Oct. 25) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team surpassed last season's win total on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) in non-conference action against Shepherd at Hamer Hall.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 24-4 overall behind an 8-0 mark at home. Last year, Cal U finished with 23 victories after advancing to the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship for the fifth-straight year. Meanwhile, the Rams fall to 14-13 this season.
Juniors
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) both finished with seven kills in the victory, while the trio of redshirt junior
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), junior
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and freshman
Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) added six kills against Shepherd.
Sophomore
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) recorded her fifth assist/dig double-double of the season, posting 19 assists and 11 digs on Tuesday. Senior
Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) added 15 assists in the win, while Harris led the team with 13 digs.
The group of Bielich, Franz, Harris and junior
Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) each finished with three blocks versus the Rams.
The Vulcans continue their five-match homestand on Friday, Oct. 28, when they host Mercyhurst in Hamer Hall at 7 p.m.
