No. 9 Cal U falls to Millersville, 1-0

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 22) – In a meeting of two of the top three-ranked teams in the region, the No. 9 California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at the new Soccer Facility on Saturday night.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 10-2-4 overall and drop to second in the league standings with 16 points behind a 5-2-1 mark. Meanwhile, the Marauders improve to 9-4-1 this year and are now first in the conference standings with a 6-1-0 record and 18 points.

Millersville senior Eric Pepper scored the only goal of the game at the 37:25-mark, 1-0.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) finished with three saves in the loss, while Marauders' Brad Benzing collected seven saves on Saturday.

Cal U and Millersville each finished with 11 shots in the game, including seven each in the second period, and the teams combined for 38 fouls and five yellow cards. The Marauders posted a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks with all six coming in the second period.

The Vulcans are idle for a week before closing the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they host defending-PSAC Champion Shippensburg at 5:30 p.m.
