Chris Hunkele (Hampton, Pa./Hampton) registered their first career goals in the first period on Sunday afternoon to help the No. 21 California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team post a 2-1 win at No. 4 Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 9-1-2 overall and move into first place in the league standings with 13 points behind a 4-1-1 record in conference play. Meanwhile, the Lakers drop to 8-2-0 this season with a 2-1-0 mark in league action.

Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) made five saves to earn his ninth win of the season after entering the year with eight wins in his career. Mercyhurst's Diego Gustin tallied one save while playing all 90 minutes on Sunday.
In the losing effort, the Lakers finished with a 15-5 advantage in shots after taking 11 attempts in the second period while both teams took three corner kicks in the game.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when it travels to face District of Columbia at 12 p.m. Last season, the Vulcans posted a 1-0 road win over the Firebirds in the first meeting between the two teams since 2004.
