Erin Feltz (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) scored her first goal of the season and junior
Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) collected the game-winning goal in double-overtime on Wednesday afternoon, as the No. 4 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory at Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
With their fifth-straight win, the Vulcans remain unbeaten this season at 12-0-2 overall and 9-0-2 in league action. Meanwhile, the Huskies fall to 8-6-1 this season with a 6-5-1 mark in conference play.
Late in the first period, Cal U faced its first deficit of the season after senior Natalie Adams gave Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. The Vulcans responded less than three minutes later when Feltz tallied the fourth goal of her career at the 43:15-mark off an assist from sophomore
Chelsea Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J. Woodstown), who is tied for the team lead with eight assists.
The two teams combined for 19 shot attempts in the second period with neither team able to break the tie. Midway through the second overtime, Work scored her 15th goal of the season off a feed from freshman
Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) in the 105th minute.
Work is now tied with
Teresa Ribar (1995) for fifth place in single-season school history with 15 goals, which is only four shy of the school record. The Hopewell product also ranks fifth all-time at Cal U with 67 points, moving past former teammate
Sam Regney (2008-10) on Wednesday.
Senior
Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) collected five saves in 104-plus minutes to earn her 11th victory of the season. Bloomsburg's Frances Nicoletti finished with eight saves in the loss.
The Vulcans out-shot the Huskies by a 29-12 margin after attempting 12 shots in the first and second periods. Cal U also held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks with both teams taking five corner kicks in the second period.
Cal U, who has already clinched a berth in the PSAC Tournament, returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, when it hosts Millersville for Homecoming at 3:30 p.m. Live stats of the game will be available
