No. 13 Vulcans roll past Davis & Elkins, 7-0

ELKINS, W.Va. (Sept. 21) – Senior forward Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca) tallied two goals and two assists and sophomore forward Kayla Fransko (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) added two goals, as the No. 13 Vulcans overwhelmed Davis & Elkins on Tuesday, 7-0.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team moves to 6-0-1 overall, while the Senators fall to 3-4. Earlier in the day, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released that Cal U moved up seven spots in the NSCAA/adidas® poll to No. 13. In addition to the national ranking, the Vulcans moved up one spot in the Atlantic Region to No. 2.

Freshman forward Bethany Smyda (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) started off the scoring at the 5:23-mark with her fifth goal of the season off of a Regney assist. Freshman forward Tonya Fabian (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) also scored her fifth goal of the season 25 minutes later on Regney's second assist of the day. Less than a minute later, Regney collected her first goal of the game off of an assist from Fabian. Regney stretched the Vulcans' lead to 4-0 just 40 seconds in to the second half when she posted her fifth goal of the season off of a Smyda assist.

In the 76th minute, sophomore Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) posted her second goal of the year after taking a pass from freshman Chelsea Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J./Woodstown) and scoring past Davis & Elkins keeper Jessica Coleman. Fransko got in on the scoring action at the 78:16-mark with her second score coming less than two minutes later on assists by Stephanie Thompson (Queensville, Ontario/Huron Heights Secondary) and Jodi McDonald (Ajax, Ontario/Ajax).

Junior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) earned the win in net bringing her season record to 6-0-1 while posting her fourth shutout and the team's fifth.

The Vulcans take to the road this weekend for two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests, the first of which takes place against Slippery Rock on Friday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.
