Cal U sweeps Bellarmine, 3-0

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Sept. 10) – Behind a season-high 12 kills by sophomore middle hitter Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley), the Vulcans posted a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-23, 25-20) against Bellarmine (Ky.) on Friday afternoon in the first day of the Northern Kentucky Tournament.

With its second-straight win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team moves to 2-4, while Bellarmine falls to 3-2.

Franz finished with 12 kills on 19 attempts for a season-best .526 hitting percentage. Sophomore Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) added seven kills and seven blocks (all assisted), while classmate Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) collected six kills. Junior Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) directed the offense with 31 assists and added five kills and five digs.

Sophomore Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) led all players with 18 digs and posted a pair of service aces.

The Vulcans return to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 11, when they face host Northern Kentucky and Wisconsin-Parkside, beginning at 10 a.m.
