CALIFORNIA (Nov. 3) – The Vulcans extended their current win streak to three matches by defeating Ashland (Ohio), 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 25-20), in a non-conference match-up Tuesday night at Hamer Hall.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 20-10 on the year with two matches remaining in the regular season. The Vulcans, who were ranked third in the NCAA Atlantic Region on Tuesday, have now posted at least 20 wins in seven-consecutive seasons. Ashland falls to 16-11 in 2010 and loses back-to-back matches for only the third time all season.

A trio of Vulcans led the attack as junior Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) and sophomores Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) each posted seven kills in the match. Sophomores Meghan Franz (Cranberry, Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) contributed six kills apiece with both having hitting percentages over .500. Fromknecht and freshman Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) paced the offense with 16 assists each.

Junior Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) led the team in digs with 10 while senior Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) added eight digs.

Cal U will wrap-up the regular season this weekend with a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matches. The first is Friday night as the Edinboro Fighting Scots come to campus for a 7 p.m. battle between two of the top teams in the PSAC West.
