CALIFORNIA (Oct. 3) – Freshman Russell Bootwright (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season to lift the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team to a 1-0 Senior Day win over West Virginia Wesleyan at Roadman Park on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 7-2-1 overall this season with a 3-0-1 mark at home. Meanwhile, the Bobcats fall to 7-3-1 overall after entering the week ranked fifth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Atlantic Regional rankings.

Cal U took the lead at the 14:23-mark when Bootwright tallied his second game-winning goal off assists from sophomores Chris Moehler (Centreville, Va./Paul VI Catholic) and Ryan Grindle (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills).

Senior goalkeeper Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) preserved the shutout and tied his season high with seven saves against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats' Ryan McDougall collected three saves in the loss.

In the victory, Cal U was out-shot by a slim 15-14 margin after each team attempted eight shots in the second period. The Vulcans held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks, while the physical contest featured a combined 33 fouls and two yellow cards.
