Cal U blanks Washington Adventist, 2-0

Box Score

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (Oct. 24) – The Vulcans continued to improve their post-season résumé with a 2-0 in-region victory on Sunday afternoon at Washington Adventist in non-conference play.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 10-4-2 overall this season. The Vulcans entered the week ranked sixth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional rankings before earning a win over regionally- and nationally-ranked Charleston (W.Va.) on Monday. Meanwhile, Washington Adventist falls to 9-7 overall after having its three-game win streak snapped.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead early in the game when senior Adam Green (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) tallied his first career game-winning goal off an assist from classmate Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg). Following halftime, Cal U expanded its lead in the 87th minute when freshman Russell Bootwright (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year following a feed from fellow freshman Scott Campbell (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek).

Senior goalkeeper Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) registered his eight shutout of the season and the 15th of his career while facing the Shock.

The Vulcans out-shot the Shock by an 18-14 margin on Sunday, while both teams took four corner kicks.

Cal U returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 28, when it travels to nearby Seton Hill for a 3 p.m. contest. The Griffins have won each of the last two meetings against the Vulcans, including 3-1 win last year at Roadman Park.
