The Cal U defense stymied the Lock Haven offense, allowing only 84 yards of offense on 59 plays (1.4 yards per play) and six first downs (two via penalty). The Vulcans amassed eight sacks to help force the Bald Eagles into negative-52 rushing yards on 39 attempts. After entering the game ranked first in the PSAC in turnover margin, Cal U also collected three turnovers (two interceptions).

On the game's opening possession, the Vulcans forced the Bald Eagles into a three-and-out and following a bad snap on the punt Cal U took over at the Lock Haven 12-yard line. Using the short field, Smith capped the drive with a 3-yard score. Midway through the first quarter, Smith scampered a season-long 30 yards for his second touchdown of the game, 14-0.

Early in the second quarter, Smith closed a 13-play, 92-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge. After a 31-yard field goal by senior Marc Domonkos (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort/Lock Haven) with 1:53 left in the half, the Vulcans expanded their lead to 31-0 at the break with another 1-yard score by Smith. The final score of the second quarter was set-up by a 26-yard scramble by senior quarterback Josh Portis (Woodland Hills, Calif./William H. Taft/Maryland).

Portis finished the game with 189 passing yards and two scores on 13-of-22 attempts with no interceptions.

On the first possession of the second half, Portis found senior wide receiver Terrance Moore (Key West, Fla./Key West/Mesa C.C.) for a 12-yard touchdown to make it a 37-0 contest. Later in the third, the Bald Eagles moved into the red zone before a fourth-down tackle for loss (TFL) by junior linebacker Terrance Hemsley (Cheltenham, Md./Gwynn Park) forced a turnover on downs. The Vulcans countered with a five-play scoring drive capped by a 61-yard touchdown toss from Portis to redshirt freshman Mike Williams (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey), 44-0.

Senior defensive back Kyle Crane (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport/Lock Haven) halted the ensuing drive by Lock Haven with an interception near midfield. Junior quarterback Ryan Morris (West Chester, Ohio/St. Xavier) then connected with classmate Justin Shaffer (Smithton, Pa./Yough) for a 46-yard touchdown with 14:16 remaining in the game.
