No. 4 Women's Soccer falls to West Chester

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 16) – In a meeting of nationally-ranked teams and the top two teams in the Atlantic Region, the No. 4 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss on Saturday to No. 13 West Chester at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

The loss snaps the Vulcans' 11-game winning streak, as they fall to 13-1-1 overall and 9-1-1 in league play. Meanwhile, West Chester improves to 12-1-0 overall and 10-1-0 in conference action, leapfrogging Cal U for first place in the league standings.

The two teams played a scoreless first half with Cal U holding a 6-3 shot advantage at the intermission. At the 53:36-mark, West Chester scored the only goal of the game when senior Sarah Oswald was able to beat junior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust).

For the game, the Vulcans out-shot the defending-PSAC Champions by a 16-5 margin. Junior Sara Di Benedetto (Maple, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic) paced the Cal U offense posting six shots and sophomore Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) tallied three shots on the afternoon.
