Volleyball suffers loss at Edinboro, 3-0

EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 16) – The Vulcans had their nine-match win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss (18-25, 23-25, 20-25) at Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the defeat, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team falls to 16-8 overall with an 11-2 record in league play. The Vulcans had previously won the last 14 meetings against the Fighting Scots dating back to the 2003 season. Meanwhile, Edinboro improves to 20-3 overall and remains in a tie with Clarion for first place in the league standings with a 12-1 record in conference action.

Sophomore Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) led the offensive attack with nine kills in 24 attempts. Classmate Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) and junior Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) finished tied for second with seven kills a piece.

Two players posted double-digits in digs for the Vulcans with senior libero Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) leading the way with 13 and junior Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) contributing 10.

Junior setter Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) added 27 assists and five digs in the loss to the Fighting Scots.
