CALIFORNIA (Oct. 16) – Junior Mike Kalas (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) scored his first two career goals, including the game-winner in the 83rd minute, on Saturday afternoon to lead the Vulcans to a 3-2 victory over West Chester at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 8-4-2 overall and 2-4-2 in league play. Meanwhile, West Chester drops to 6-7-0 this year with a 0-6-0 mark in conference action.

In the first period, Cal U took an early 1-0 lead when Kalas scored the first goal of his career off a feed from senior Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg) in the fourth minute. West Chester evened the score before the break in the 34th minute when sophomore Josh Labik with assists from sophomore Taylor Eisenhauer and freshman Conor Malarney, 1-1.

After a rough start to play in the second period, sophomore Nemanja Visekruna (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Thomas More) scored his third goal of the year on a penalty kick at the 52:41-mark after the Golden Rams received their second yellow card in less than three minutes. West Chester then evened the score in the 82nd minute when Kyle Miller tallied his fifth goal of the season off another pass from Malarney. Kalas then scored the game-winning goal at the 83:51-mark off a deflection of a free kick by sophomore Chris Moehler (Centreville, Va./Paul VI Catholic).

The teams combined for the five goals on only 20 shot attempts with Cal U out-shooting West Chester by an 11-9 margin. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks and were issued three yellow cards, playing a man-down for the final 37-plus minutes.
