SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. (Oct. 12) – Sophomore
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) tied her career high with 15 kills on Tuesday night, as the Vulcans rallied to claim a 3-2 victory (18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 17-25, 15-3) on the road against Shepherd.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 15-7 overall this season. The Vulcans have won eight-straight matches and 13 of their last 14 after starting the year with a 2-6 mark. Meanwhile, the Rams have lost five of their last seven to fall to 7-12 this season.
Fromknecht led the offensive attack with 15 kills on 26 attempts for a .423 hitting percentage. Fellow sophomores
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) and
Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) added 10 and nine kills, respectively, on Tuesday.
Four players reached double-digits in digs, including senior libero
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) with a match-high 27. Junior
Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) tallied 18 digs with seven kills and three blocks, while junior
Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) finished with 11 digs.
Junior setter
Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) registered her fourth assist/dig double-double of the year, finishing 43 assists and 10 digs at Shepherd.
The Vulcans return to conference play with a pair of road matches this weekend, beginning on Friday, Oct. 15, against Mercyhurst at 7 p.m.
