Cal U earns shutout win at UDC, 1-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 1) – Sophomore midfielder Chris Moehler (Centreville, Va./Paul VI Catholic) scored his first goal of the season in the 74th minute on Friday afternoon, as the Vulcans earned a 1-0 in-region victory at District of Columbia.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 6-2-1 overall this season. Meanwhile, UDC drops to 3-6-1 on the year.

Despite 12 first-half shots by the Vulcans, the game remained scoreless at halftime. The second half featured a more defensive style of play as only four combined shots (all by Cal U) were attempted. Moehler broke the scoreless tie at the 74:37-mark with his second career game-winning goal off a feed from junior Mike Kalas (Irwin, Pa./Norwin).

Senior goalkeeper Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) made two saves on four shot attempts to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Firebird junior Rommel Fuentes collected eight saves in the losing effort.

Cal U finished the game with a 16-4 advantage in shots and also held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to action on Sunday, Oct. 3, when they host West Virginia Wesleyan on Dunlevy and Senior Day at Roadman Park. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start and live stats will be available by clicking here.
