No. 17 Vulcans downed at Edinboro, 1-0

EDINBORO, Pa. (Sept. 30) – The No. 17 Vulcans fell 1-0 on the road to Edinboro on Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

The Vulcans fall to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in league play, while Edinboro moves to 4-3-4 overall and 3-3-2 in divisional action. Cal U has lost back-to-back games for the first time all year with both losses by only a one-goal margin.

The Fighting Scots took an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when junior Melissa Leszek scored an unassisted goal. Cal U was held scoreless for the first time this year after sophomore Kate Stukbauer made four saves in 90 minutes of play.

In the loss, the Vulcans held a 15-10 advantage in shots with a 6-3 edge in the second period. Senior Amanda Heister (Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and junior Carina Honeygosky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) each attempted a game-high four shots.

Sophomore Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) finished with four saves in the game.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when it hosts Ohio Valley (W.Va.) for a non-conference game at Roadman Park. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
