CALIFORNIA (Sept. 26) – The Vulcans extended their win streak to eight matches on Saturday, earning a 3-0 win against Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Hamer Hall.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play. The Vulcans have also won 13-straight matches against the Fighting Scots, who fall to 12-4 and 4-1 in league action.
Senior outside hitter
Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) registered her third-straight kill/dig double-double and 12th of the season, finishing with 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore middle hitter
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished with nine kills, while freshman middle hitter
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) added seven kills.
Defensively, junior libero
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) collected a team-high 14 digs with Nist and senior
Ashley Moore (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) each posting 11 digs. Senior setter
Renata da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) finished the game with 31 assists, nine digs and five kills against Edinboro.
Cal U begins a six-match road trip on Friday, Oct. 2, when it travels to face Clarion. The Vulcans and Golden Eagles are the only two undefeated teams in league play in the 14-team PSAC. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
