CALIFORNIA (Sept. 26) – The Vulcans scored a pair of first-period goals to earn their second-straight shutout on Saturday at Roadman Park, winning 2-0 over Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team moves to 6-3 overall. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg falls to 4-2-2 this season.
The Vulcans took an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when junior
Felipe Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Coleaio Objetivo) scored his fourth goal of the season off a feed from senior
Justin Taucher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley). Less than two minutes later, Cal U expanded its lead to 2-0 on a goal by freshman
Nemanja Visekruna (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Thomas More) with assists from Taucher and sophomore
Steve Nese (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills). The Vulcans took a 2-0 lead into halftime after the Cal U defense limited Bloomsburg to only two shot attempts in the first period.
Junior goalkeeper
Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) recorded his first shutout of the season and sixth of his career after making four saves on 10 shot attempts by the Huskies.
Cal U held a sizeable 20-10 advantage in shots, while Bloomsburg posted an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Vulcans, who are on a three-game winning streak, return to action on Thursday, Oct. 1, when they travel to face Pitt-Johnstown for a 3 p.m. contest. Last year, the Mountain Cats earned a 1-0 victory over the Vulcans at Roadman Park.
