Men's Soccer tops Washington Adventist, 4-0

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 24) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team used four goals from three different players to earn a 4-0 shutout against Washington Adventist (Md.), formerly Columbia Union, on Thursday evening at Roadman Park.

With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 5-3 overall while the Shock fall to 2-6 this year.

Cal U broke a scoreless tie in the 42nd minute when sophomore Steve Nese (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) scored his second goal of the season off an assist from junior Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg). The Vulcans increased their first-half lead to 2-0 when senior Justin Taucher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored off an assist from Nese less than a minute later.

The Vulcans added a pair of insurance goals in the second period by senior Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton). Luecke made the score 3-0 when he tallied a goal off a pass from freshman Nemanja Visekruna (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Thomas More) at the 60:09-mark. The two-time All-PSAC West selection then recorded his team-leading seventh goal of the year less than a minute later with a feed from Taucher.

With his two goals against Washington Adventist, Luecke passed Cal U Athletics Hall of Famer Omar McPherson (1995-98) for fourth place in school history in 46 career goals. He also now ranks third with 113 career points, passing Roger Gordan (1993-96).

Juniors Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) and Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) combined for the Vulcans' first shutout of the year, making three saves. Dagnal earned the win after posting two saves in 57-plus minutes of action.

Cal U out-shot Washington Adventist by a 21-11 margin, including an 11-4 lead in the first period.

The Vulcans close out their three-game homestand, hosting Bloomsburg at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Roadman Park.
