CALIFORNIA (Sept. 16) – Two freshmen California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer players combined to score each of the team's goals on Wednesday, as the No. 24 Vulcans posted a dominant 3-0 victory over Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at Roadman Park.

With the victory, Cal U remains in a tie for first place in the PSAC West standings with 12 points behind a 4-1 divisional mark and 5-1 overall record. The Vulcans, who were picked fifth in the preseason PSAC West coaches' poll, currently leads the eight-team PSAC Western Division with five total wins this year. Meanwhile, Lock Haven drops to 1-5 this year with a 0-5 mark in league action.

The Vulcans broke a scoreless tie in the 33rd minute when freshman Kelsey Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) scored her first career goal off an assist from junior Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca). Cal U took a 1-0 lead into halftime after holding a 13-1 advantage in shots.

In the second period, freshman Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) added a pair of insurance goals with junior Carina Honeygosky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) collecting assists on both goals. Work scored her first goal of the game at the 57:06-mark before tallying her first goal of the season in the 83rd minute.

For the game, Cal U held a massive 36-1 edge in shots. The Vulcans defense consistently didn't allow the Bald Eagles to manage any scoring chances.

Sophomore Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) recorded her third shutout of the year, while Lock Haven goalkeeper Bently Kim posted 15 saves – one of the best single-game totals in Bald Eagles' history.

Cal U continues its homestand against PSAC West rivals on Saturday, Sept. 19, when it hosts Clarion for a 1 p.m. start at Roadman Park.
