KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 15) – Sophomore midfielder Erin Feltz (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) scored the game-winning goal and collected two assists on Sunday, as the No. 23 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team claimed a 3-1 victory against No. 17 Kutztown in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 18-5-1 this season and will now face rival IUP in a third-round game on Friday, Nov. 20, in Loudonville, N.Y. on the campus of Siena College at 1 p.m. The Crimson Hawks advanced to the third round after defeating Gannon by penalty kicks on Friday and shutting out No. 5 West Chester, 1-0, on Saturday. Cal U and IUP will meet for the third time this season after the Vulcans swept the regular-season series, winning 2-1 and 4-0.

"This was a tremendous team performance in the biggest game of the season," said third-year head coach Al Alvine. "To win on the road in the NCAA Tournament is special, but the manner in which we won was a credit to our young squad. We are thrilled to move on the regional final next weekend."

Cal U took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when junior forward Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca) scored her ninth goal of the season off an assist from Feltz. The Vulcans added to their first-half lead when Feltz scored her first goal of the year (second of her career) off a feed from freshman Kayla Fransko (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) at the 31:57-mark.

After halftime, Frankso made it a 3-0 contest when she tallied her first career goal in the 64th minute with assists to Regney and Feltz. The Golden Bears cut the deficit to 3-1 at the 75:20-mark with a goal by Emily Froehlich.

Sophomore goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) earned her 17th victory of the season after making five saves in 90 minutes. Kutztown goalkeeper Alysa Hackelberg also finished with five saves in the game.

In the game, Cal U held a sizeable 15-8 advantage in shots with a 10-3 edge in the first half. The Vulcans also posted a 4-3 edge in corner kicks in the second-round game.

The game between Cal U and Kutztown was a rematch of last week's PSAC Semifinals won by the Golden Bears, 1-0.

Kutztown finished its season with a 15-6-2 overall record.
