Women's Soccer tops Wheeling Jesuit, 1-0

WHEELING, W.Va. (Oct. 8) – After a scoreless first half, senior forward Amanda Heister (Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon) scored her third game-winning goal of the season in the 53rd minute on Thursday to lead the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against Wheeling Jesuit in non-conference action.

The Vulcans improve to 9-3-1 overall this year, while the Cardinals fall to 5-8 after losing their fourth-straight game.

Despite Cal U attacking the Cardinals' net with nine shots in the first half, the game remained scoreless throughout the first half. Heister then tallied her team-leading seventh goal of the year at the 52:26-mark off an assist from sophomore Kelsey Fisher (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland).

For the game, Cal U out-shot Wheeling Jesuit by a dominant 18-1 margin and also held a sizeable 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) registered her sixth shutout of the season after making one save in 90 minutes of action. Meanwhile, the Cardinals' Jessica Park posted nine saves in the loss.

The Vulcans return to action when they open a three-game homestand, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they host Bloomsburg for Alumni Day at 3 p.m.
