Men's Soccer edges West Chester, 3-2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 3) – The Vulcans extended their win streak to five games with a 3-2 road win against West Chester after scoring three first-period goals in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team moves to 8-3 while West Chester drops to 2-5-2 this season.

The Vulcans took an early 1-0 lead in the third minute when junior Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg) scored off a pass from junior Felipe Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Coleaio Objetivo). Cal U expanded its lead at the 13:07-mark when senior Justin Taucher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) collected his seventh goal of the season with an assist from sophomore Brady Sanders (Level Green, Pa./Penn-Trafford). Souza then scored the eventual-game-winning goal in the 21st minute off a feed from Taucher.

In the second period, West Chester cut the deficit to 3-2 after goals in the 66th and 78th minutes. After the Golden Rams' final goal at the 77:54-mark, neither team was able to attempt a shot.

Juniors Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) and Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) combined to make three saves on 10 shots with Yobbi earning his fifth win of the season. West Chester snapped the Vulcan goalkeepers' scoreless streak, a streak which covered parts of five games and nearly 389 minutes.

The two teams combined for 32 fouls and only 19 shots with the Golden Rams holding a 10-9 advantage.

Cal U returns to Roadman Park for a three-game homestand, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 7, when it hosts Slippery Rock in PSAC West action.
