Cal U claims 3-0 win against Shippensburg

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 26) – Behind a .434 attack percentage, the No. 13 California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-8, 25-17) against Shippensburg University at Hamer Hall in the final match of the first day in the Cal U Tournament.

Junior outside hitter Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) paced the Vulcans with 11 kills, while middle hitter Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) added seven kills and six other Cal U players registered three-plus kills against the Red Raiders (10-8).

Junior setter Renata Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) steadied Cal U on the evening with 30 assists, four kills and five digs. Libero Marta Hodge (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) led the defense with a team-best 18 digs, while Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) added eight digs.

The Vulcans (17-1) continue play in their home tournament tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 27, against Kutztown University and Lock Haven University.
