Box Score

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 23) – Starting eight freshmen, the Vulcans claimed a 1-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon against Edinboro University at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer tied its win total from last season. The Vulcans, under second-year head coach Al Alvine, move to 4-3-2 overall with a 2-3-1 mark in divisional play, while the Fighting Scots fall to 3-5-1 overall and 0-5-1 in league games.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie through the first period despite nine Cal U shot attempts. The Vulcans appeared to have scored in the early minutes of the second period when they attempted two back-to-back shot sequences, however, Edinboro goalkeeper Lisa Bartolowits kept the game scoreless.

Later in the period, Cal U broke the shutout with a goal by freshman Chaning Wimer (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) in the 56th minute with assists to sophomore Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca) and freshman Darija Davidson (Courtice, Ontario/St. Stephen's). The eventual game-winning goal marked the first career goal for Wimer, who is one of 17 freshmen on the team this season.

The Vulcans out-shot the Fighting Scots by a 19-7 margin for the game, led by six attempts by freshman Kayla Jachimowski (Camden, Del./Caeser Rodney).

Senior goalkeeper Erin Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) earned her second shutout of the season after making five saves on seven shots in 90 minutes of action. Bartolowits finished with nine saves on 19 attempts.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, with a 2 p.m. non-divisional game against the University of Charleston (W.Va.) at Roadman Park.
