CALIFORNIA (Aug. 30) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team continued its strong play to start this season, claiming a 2-0 victory against Wheeling Jesuit University at Roadman Park in the Vulcans' home opener.
Cal U won its second-straight game to open the season after winning just four games last season. The team features 17 freshmen under second-year coach
Al Alvine.

Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca) and freshman
Raghen Morrow (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) each tallied their first career goals in the victory.
Davidson scored first for the Vulcans off an assist from senior
Katie Powell (Bentleyville, Pa./Charleroi) and junior
Amanda Heister (Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon).
Morrow extended the Cal lead to 2-0 with a goal on a breakaway and assists to
Alex Flanick (Fredericksburg, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and
Jodi McDonald (Ajax, Ontario/Ajax).
The Vulcan offense controlled the course of the game, out-shooting the Cardinals by a 26-2 margin. Senior goalkeeper
Erin Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) registered her first shutout of the season, collecting two saves.
Heister paced the offensive attack with seven shot attempts, while Regney attempted five shots.
Cal returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 3, when it opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-West play against conference-newcomer Mercyhurst College. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Roadman Park.
