ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 8) – After allowing two goals in less than two minutes in the first half, the Vulcans dropped a 2-1 contest against No. 21 Mercyhurst College on Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team moves to 6-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league play while Mercyhurst improves to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in divisional action.

Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scoring his 11th goal (unassisted) of the season on a breakaway in the eighth minute. The Lakers evened the score at the 36:08-mark when sophomore Billy Colton tallied his 11th goal of the season.
Less than 90 seconds later, Mercyhurst claimed a 2-1 lead when sophomore Tommy Lund scored an unassisted goal off a scramble.
Against the nationally-ranked Lakers, the Vulcans held the advantage in both shots (12-11) and corner kicks (4-2). The Cal U defense limited Mercyhurst to only 11 shots, its second-lowest offensive output of the season.

Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) returned to the starting role in net for the Vulcans, making three saves on 11 shot attempts in 90 minutes of action.
Cal U continues divisional play when it hosts PSAC-newcomer Gannon University on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Roadman Park for a 2 p.m. start.
