No. 19 Cal U sweeps IUP, 3-0

INDIANA, Pa. (Oct. 28) – Junior middle hitter Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) registered a match-high 15 kills, as the No. 19 Vulcans claimed a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-22, 25-16) over Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Tuesday night.

The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team moves to 32-1 overall and 10-0 in divisional play. The Vulcans continue to hold a 1.0-game lead in the PSAC standings over Edinboro University with two games left in the regular season, both divisional contests. IUP falls to 13-18 overall and 0-9 in conference action.

Amaral collected 15 kills on 19 attacks for a stellar .789 hitting percentage, while senior Thais Franca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Padre Manoel De Paiva) posted seven kills and five blocks. Juniors Ashley Moore (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) each posted six kills in the win and Bridget Bielich added five kills.

Defensively, junior libero Marta Hodge (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) and Moore led Cal U with 12 digs and nine digs, respectively. Junior setter Renata Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) paced the offense with 36 assists and added seven digs.

The Vulcans return to Hamer Hall on Friday, Oct. 31, for their final home regular season match of the season against sixth-place Gannon University. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start.
