Bernarding opened the outdoor season by winning the 800-meter run on Saturday while at the Stan Romanoski Open hosted by West Virginia. He posted a time of 1 minute, 56.79 seconds to earn the victory by over six seconds and qualified for the PSAC Championships. Bernarding also finished fourth overall in the 1,500-meter run at WVU after registering a time of 4:15.79.
