Burkey led the team with a combined 33 kills and 11 service aces over the weekend, as California posted a 2-1 record while hosting the season-opening Vulcan Invitational. She opened play on Friday by collecting 11 kills, seven digs and six service aces against Frostburg State. Later that day, Burkey posted 13 kills on a .303 hitting percentage with seven digs and two service aces in a 3-0 win over Lake Erie. The Ohio native closed the weekend by totaling nine kills, nine digs and three service aces on Saturday in a 3-2 victory against Bloomsburg.
