An assistant coach on six conference championship teams, Barbara Letourneau enters her eighth year as the assistant coach at Cal U in 2018.
Letourneau has helped the Vulcans tally 175 wins and a .706 winning percentage during her time with the program. Over the last seven years, Cal U has made five appearances in the NCAA Tournament while advancing to the regional final in four-consecutive years from 2011-14. Additionally, the Vulcans have won the PSAC Championship in 2011 and 2014 while reaching the 30-win mark four times.
Prior to Cal U, Letourneau served six seasons as the assistant coach at Frostburg State, NCAA Division III programs in Maryland. She helped the program win nearly 150 matches from 2005-10, including a 48-6 mark in conference action. Letourneau helped guide the Bobcats to three Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Championships and one Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship, as the program transitioned conferences during her time.
Frostburg State also made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament, highlighted by the program’s only appearance in the regional final in 2010. The Bobcats set a school record for wins that season with a 34-4 mark while being a first-year member of the CAC.
Before Frostburg State, Letourneau taught and coached at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland. As the head coach in 2004, she guided the Poets to a state regional championship and a 14-2 record. A native of Brazil, Letourneau also spent three years as an assistant coach at Stevenson (formerly Villa Julie) and three years with the Time Out Volleyball Club in Baltimore.
Prior to moving to the United States, Letourneau played for the Minas Tenis Clube in her hometown of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from the ages of 11-16, winning two city championships in that time. Additionally, she served as a captain for Colegio Monte Calvario from 1985-87 and for Colegio Arnaldo from 1988-90.
A 1999 graduate of Towson (Md.), Letourneau completed her master’s degree in human performance in 2007 from Frostburg State. She and her husband Peter have a son, Nathaniel, and reside in California. Â
