A former sprinter and assistant coach at Eastern Illinois, Brenton Emanuel enters his first season on the Cal U coaching staff. Emanuel serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator and coaches the sprinters and hurdlers.
Emanuel served four-plus years as an assistant with the Panthers and helped the program capture all four men’s and women’s Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Championships from 2010-12 and claim three of four titles last seasons.
He worked with the sprinters and hurdlers for the Panthers, including Zye Boey, who was a five-time All-American and six-time OVC Athlete of the Year. Boey earned All-America status in the 200-meter dash at the 2011 NCAA Indoor National Championships before garnering All-America laurels in the 200 meters as a senior during both the indoor and outdoor season. In the summer of 2012, Boey competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Emanuel mentored a group that combined to earn All-OVC honors over 50 times. During the 2012 outdoor season, he helped coach Jalisa Paramore who won the OVC title in the 100-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 13.65 seconds and advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships. That same spring, Emanuel worked with the men’s 4x100-meter relay that set a school record with a time of 39.85 seconds and later won the league championship.
A native of Illinois, Emanuel was a three-time team captain at EIU and helped the program sweep the conference titles in 2007. An All-OVC performer, he earned his undergraduate degree in physical education from Eastern Illinois in 2008 and completed his master's degree in sports administration the following year.
