A former No. 1 singles and doubles player at Harding (Ark.), Olzhas Taniyev enters his second year as a graduate assistant with the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team in the 2012 spring season.

Taniyev was a three-year player for the Bisons, a member of the Gulf South Conference (GSC). While on the court, he compiled a career record of 34-15 in singles play after playing at the first position as both a junior and senior. Taniyev also posted a career mark of 32-13 in doubles action in three seasons at Harding. He was a member of the All-GSC First Team and earned Academic All-GSC honors in 2008.

Originally from Kazakhstan, Taniyev earned his bachelor’s degree in international business from Harding. While an amateur, he was the second-ranked junior in his native country and played on the junior International Tennis Federation (ITF) team.

Taniyev, who is fluent in three languages, has previously served as the head counselor at Carmel Valley Tennis Camp and was the tennis professional at Alpine Hills, both of which are located in the state of California.

He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration at Cal U.
