Glenn Francis

After serving as an assistant coach last season, Glenn Francis enters his first year as head coach at Cal U in 2014.
 
Francis spent eight years as a head coach between Ashland and West Virginia Wesleyan prior to joining the Vulcans. He becomes the fifth all-time coach in school history, as the program started in 1990.
 
Last season, Francis helped Cal U claim the PSAC regular-season and tournament championships. The Vulcans earned the top seed from the Atlantic Region in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the third round. Cal U finished the year ranked No. 12 in the NSCAA Top 25 poll after mounting a 19-game unbeaten streak (18-0-1) and featured NSCAA All-American Erin Hogan, who led NCAA Division II with a school-record 17 assists.
 
Francis served as head coach at Ashland from 2010-12 and posted a 20-29-7 overall record. He led the program to a 9-8-4 mark in his second season, as the Eagles recorded their winningest season in six years. In 2012, Francis mentored All-GLIAC Honorable Mention recipient Allison Richards who led the team in both goals and assists as a freshman.
 
A native of Antigua, Francis started his coaching career as an assistant at West Virginia Wesleyan in 2003 before being appointed as head coach in 2005. He led the Bobcats to a five-win improvement in his second season before guiding the program to the first of four-consecutive WVIAC Tournament Championships and four-straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
 
Francis totaled a 55-38-5 overall record with the Bobcats and was named the WVIAC Coach of the Year in both 2007 and 2008. While at West Virginia Wesleyan, he mentored a pair of WVIAC Player of the Year selections in Katie Schubert (2007-08) and Meghan Zayas (2009) and two WVIAC Freshman of the Year honorees, Ashley Rees (2006) and Caroline Lalley (2008).
 
A standout player at Mercyhurst, Francis helped lead the Lakers to an appearance in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore and was the GLIAC Player of the Year and First-Team All-American in 1996. Francis repeated as the GLIAC Player of the Year as a senior and was inducted into the Mercyhurst Hall of Fame in 2009.
 
Francis and his wife Kim have five children, Orion, Kiana, Alayna, Isaiah and Jeremiah, and reside in North Huntingdon, Pa.
