A graduate of the university, Kyle Bennett enters his fifth year as an assistant men’s and women’s golf coach at Cal U during the 2021-22 season.
Bennett mentored one of top women’s golfers in the region in Sara Suazo. In 2019, she repeated as the PSAC Golfer of the Year and was an individual qualifier for the NCAA Regional Championships for a consecutive season. Suazo became only the second golfer in league history to be selected both PSAC Golfer and Freshman of the Year during the 2017-18 campaign.
While with the men’s program, Cal U finished second at the 2017 PSAC Championships. Bennett worked with three-time, All-PSAC First-Team golfer Ryan Smith, who placed third overall at the league championships in 2018 and finished his career with one of the top scoring averages in recent program history.
Last spring, Tyler Kipp became the first men’s golfer to be selected the PSAC Freshman of the Year in nearly a decade. He led the team in scoring average and placed third overall at the PSAC Championships before competing at the NCAA Regional Championships as an individual qualifier.
Bennett recently served as an assistant golf professional at Lone Pine Country Club in nearby Washington, Pennsylvania. While residing in Washington County, he also spent time as a coach at the scholastic level by working with the junior varsity program at Trinity High School.
A native of New York, Bennett earned his bachelor’s degree in professional golf management with a minor in business administration from Cal U in 2012. While pursuing his degree, he spent time working at both The Chevy Chase Club in Maryland, the Country Club of York in Pennsylvania, and Valley Brook Country Club in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
Bennett played for the PGM club team at Cal U during his senior year and was the 2016 Tri-State Assistant Tournament Points Leader. He has three-straight top-10 finishes at the Tri-State Assistant Section Championship and qualified for the 2017 National Assistant Championship. Bennett won the Tri-State PGA Associate Player of the Year Award in 2020.
He was also elected into PGA Membership last fall.
