David Saur

David Saur joins the California University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball program as an assistant coach for the 2011-12 season after coaching three years as an assistant at Thiel (Pa.).

In his short time with the program, Saur has already shown tremendous potential as an aggressive recruiter. He played a major role in successfully identifying and recruiting three of the top players in the state of Maryland with all three players signing early at Cal U during the fall semester.

Saur served on the coaching staffs of both the men’s and women’s basketball programs at Thiel, a NCAA Division III program in Greenville, Pa. Last year, he worked with a men’s program that captured the regular-season Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) title and advanced to the conference championship game under head coach Tim Loomis, a 2007 Cal U Hall of Fame inductee.

While with the Tomcats, he was involved in all aspects of both programs, including on-court coaching, game preparation, preseason workouts, scouting, recruiting and daily operations.

In addition to his time at Thiel, Saur has worked several basketball camps and summer workouts. During a summer stint, he worked at the Cecil Kirk Recreation Center in Baltimore, Md., helping conduct pro players’ individual workout sessions. Over the last several years, Saur has conducted his own individual workout sessions for local Baltimore college and high school players.

A native of Sykesville, Md., Saur graduated from Laurinburg Prep in Laurinburg, N.C., in 2007. While at Laurinburg, he averaged nearly 15 points per game and helped lead the Tigers to a top-15 finish in the USA Today prep school rankings.

Saur earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Thiel in 2011 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sport management from Cal U.
