A veteran of the California University of Pennsylvania soccer programs, Emedin Sabic enters his first year with the men’s soccer team in 2010. Sabic previously served the last three seasons as an assistant coach with the women’s soccer program
Sabic helped lead the Vulcan women’s teams to unprecedented success over the last two seasons, as the program won a combined 31 games after managing only four victories in 2007. Last year, Cal U won its first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West title and appeared in its first PSAC and NCAA Tournaments. On the national stage, the Vulcans advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals after allowing only one goal in their first three tournament games.
Originally from Bosnia, Sabic is no stranger to men’s soccer in the PSAC after playing four years for head men’s soccer coach Dennis Laskey from 2003-06. He registered 11 goals and 11 assists, while playing 82 career games (55 starts) for Cal U. During his playing career, the Vulcans compiled 45 victories and reached the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship Game three-straight years. As a sophomore in 2004, the Vulcans qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The following year, Cal U set a school record with 14 wins.
Sabic moved to Germany in 1991 and played club soccer in Europe until his family moved to the United States in 1999. He attended Cathedral Prep in Erie, Pa., and helped lead the Ramblers to a state championship in 2001. He was a three-time, first-team all-metro and first-team all-district selection while playing at Prep.
Sabic earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Cal U in 2007 and completed his master’s degree in 2008.
He currently holds a “C” license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) all-regional diploma.
