A former All-American and veteran coach in the PSAC, Hans Lubich enters his first season as an assistant coach with the California (PA) cross country/track & field teams in 2022.

Lubich was a standout multi-event athlete at Slippery Rock before later serving several years as a volunteer coach with The Rock. He earned All-PSAC status in the heptathlon three times in his career, capturing the league title as a senior in 2014. Lubich still holds the school record in the event with 5,021 points and finished eighth in the heptathlon at the 2014 NCAA Championships to earn All-America status.

A native of nearby Jefferson, Pennsylvania, Lubich finished 13th in the heptathlon at the PSAC Championships as a freshman before placing second as a sophomore. He then finished third in the event during the 2013 campaign and was a member of the league champion 4x100-meter relay during the outdoor season.

Lubich joined coaching staff at Slippery Rock as a graduate assistant in 2017. He helped mentor sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers while a coach at his alma mater, which claimed the women’s conference title in both the 2019 outdoor and 2020 indoor seasons.

At the scholastic level, Lubich was a three-sport athlete at Jefferson-Morgan, as he competed in basketball, football and track & field. He captured the district title in the high jump in 2009 and added a second-place finish in the event twice at the WPIAL Championships.

Lubich completed his bachelor’s degree in physical activity and fitness management from Slippery Rock in 2014. His father, Bill, serves as an assistant track & field coach at nearby Waynesburg, a NCAA Division III program.
