Dave Cole begins his seventh season as a member of coaching staff at Cal U, serving as the cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator.
While with the Vulcans, Cole mentored four-year starter and All-American Terrence Johnson. Following his senior season last year, Johnson was signed as undrafted free agent by the New England Patriots and attended the team's training camp.
In each of the last five seasons, the Vulcan defensive backs have helped the team post 15 or more interceptions.
In 2007, the Vulcans were the top-ranked defense in the nation and were also ranked fifth in pass efficiency defense behind the play of All-PSAC West First-Team cornerbacks Johnson and Dionte Henry. The success of the secondary in 2007 was preceded by back-to-back seasons with 20 and 21 interceptions by the team in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
Cole is a former four-year player and two-year starter for the Vulcans. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 2004 before finishing his master’s degree in geography and regional planning at Cal in 2006.
A native of Cincinnati, Cole was a first-team league all-star and earned all-city honors as a defensive back at Winton Woods High School.
