    Volunteer Assistant
A former MLB Draft pick and NCAA Division II All-American, Ryan Uhl enters his first season as a volunteer coach with the Cal U baseball program in 2019.

Uhl played two seasons in the Seattle Mariners minor league system after being chosen in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He made his professional debut in short-season A with the Everett AquaSox before spending 2016 in the Arizona League due to injuries, which forced his retirement from professional baseball.

A former standout at IUP, Uhl led NCAA Division II and shattered the PSAC single-season record with 29 home runs as a senior in 2015 (previous record was 23 in 2002). He also paced the country with a 1.085 slugging percentage, 0.66 home runs per game and 1.68 RBI per game while being one of eight national finalists for the 2015 Tino Martinez Award.

Uhl finished his career with the Crimson Hawks as the school’s all-time leader with 42 home runs and a .646 slugging percentage. He posted a .338 average in over 500 career at-bats and finished with 147 RBI and 126 runs scored. Uhl was also two-time All-PSAC West selection.

Following his professional career, Uhl returned to IUP and completed his bachelor’s degree in finance in December 2017.

Uhl served as a volunteer assistant with the Crimson Hawks last spring and aided in the development of consensus all-region second baseman Ted DeSanti, who led the team with seven homers and 40 RBI while posting a .376 average.
