CALIFORNIA (Sept. 20) – The No. 8 Vulcans scored touchdowns on five-straight drives in the first half while rolling to a 42-6 victory over Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover action on Saturday afternoon at Adamson Stadium.
NOTES
• Junior running back
Bobbie Boyd, Jr. posted 73 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 attempts.
• Senior quarterback
Roman Purcell finished with 140 passing yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-25 attempts with one interception, plus rushed for 48 yards on nine carries.
• Junior
D'Avay Johnson led the team with four receptions for 54 yards, as nine different players made at least one catch on Saturday.
• Junior defensive backs
Alexie Sangster, Jr. and
Khalil Taylor paced the team with eight tackles.
• Sangster also added his third interception of the season and blocked a field goal.
• Sophomore defensive lineman
Sedrick Vessah registered five stops, 1.5 TFL, 1.0 sack and one blocked kick in the victory.
• The 42 points marked the most in a game for the Vulcans since Week 4 of last season.
• Cal scored touchdowns on all four of its trips inside the red zone on Saturday

• Cal took a 7-0 lead on the opening drive of the game when Purcell found junior wide receiver
Jeff Nyamekye for a 32-yard touchdown.
• The Vulcans mounted a 93-yard scoring drive later in the quarter when Boyd posted a 3-yard touchdown run at the 3:00-mark.
• Early in the second quarter, Cal extended the lead to 21-0 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Boyd on fourth-and-goal.
• Freshman defensive back
Tavin Willis recorded a 63-yard interception return for a touchdown with 6:58 left before halftime.
• The Vulcans scored their final points of the half when junior wide receiver
Amire Spencer caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Purcell at the 2:43-mark.
• Lock Haven used a challenge in the final minute of the second quarter to overturn the ruling of an incomplete pass to a 21-yard touchdown, 35-6 (PAT blocked).
• On the opening possession of the second half, Sangster halted a drive by the Bald Eagles with an interception in the end zone.
• Sangster again prevented points on the next Lock Haven drive by blocking a 21-yard field goal attempt with 3:12 left in the third quarter.
• The Vulcans forced a turnover on downs near midfield at the midway mark of the fourth quarter when Vessah registered a sack after Lock Haven was penalized for intentional grounding on the previous play.

Keondre DeShields for an 11-yard touchdown with 3:16 left to play.

• The Vulcans open PSAC West play on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to face nationally-ranked Slippery Rock at 6 p.m.
• The Rock entered this week slotted at No. 4 in the latest top-25 poll after advancing to the national semifinals in 2024.
