WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 2) – The Vulcans closed the regular season with a home doubleheader split against Pitt-Johnstown on Senior Day at EQT Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action, dropping an 8-5 contest in Game 1 before earning a 5-0 win in Game 2.
NOTES
• The California (PA) baseball team (34-11, 19-8) finished the regular season with its most wins since the 2017 campaign.
• The Vulcans close the year ranked second in the PSAC West standings, two wins behind first-place Seton Hill.
• Cal opens the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday, May 7, against West Chester at Cooper Park in Millersville, Pennsylvania.
• The opening day of the tournament is single elimination before shifting to a double-elimination structure for the four advancing teams.
GAME 1
• The Mountain Cats held an 8-0 lead before the Vulcans scored five runs over the last three innings.
• Sophomore second baseman
Caleb Collins posted three hits and one RBI, while senior first baseman
Payton Conte totaled two hits, three RBI and one run scored.
• Sophomore catcher
Conner McTighe drew two walks and scored one run.
• UPJ scored six runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a two-run homer from center fielder Justin Turcovski.
• The Mountain Cats added two runs in the fourth inning before the Vulcans managed their first hit of the game in the bottom of the inning.
• Cal scored a pair of runs in the fifth on a bases-loaded, two-run single by Conte.
• The Vulcans cut the deficit to 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh after scoring three runs on two hits, two walks and two hit by pitches.
• Conte and Collins both posted RBI singles in the inning.

Nathan Holmes (4-3) suffered the loss after allowing eight runs (all earned) on nine hits in 4.0 innings (59 pitches).
• Classmate
Luke Treloar worked a season-best 3.0 scoreless innings of relief (37 pitches).
GAME 2
• Cal used three different pitchers to record a four-hit, complete-game shutout while battling a 90-plus minute lightning delay.

Roman Gill (5-2) earned the victory after scattering two hits and two walks over 4.0 innings (49 pitches).

Ben Barr worked a scoreless fifth inning following the delay and junior
Jake Kramer registered his 10th save of the year with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
• Kramer has tallied double-digit saves in each of the last two springs, becoming the first pitcher in PSAC history with multiple 10-save seasons in a career.
• The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Collins, who started at shortstop.
• Cal extended the lead in the third and fourth innings on a pair of sacrifice flies.
• The Mountain Cats stranded a runner at third in both the fifth and sixth before the Vulcans added a pair of insurance runs on bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the sixth, 5-0.
• Sophomore catcher
Kyle Rizzo tallied a pair of RBI and two walks in the win.
NEXT
• The Vulcans are returning to the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2023 and the fifth time in the last six seasons.
• Cal will be facing West Chester for the first time since 2019, also in the PSAC Tournament.
• The Golden Rams captured the league title last season – its first since 2016 – before making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last three years.
