QUAKERTOWN, Pa. (April 30) – The Vulcans surrendered three runs in each of the initial three innings on Wednesday morning while suffering an 11-1 run-rule loss to Bloomsburg at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament at Veteran's Park.
With the loss, the California (PA) softball team falls to 17-32 overall and will play an elimination game against the loser of Gannon-Shepherd later today, Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Huskies improve to 30-17 this season and play again today against Slippery Rock at 3 p.m.
The Vulcans were limited to just two hits over five innings with junior shortstop

Senior left fielder
Carlena Fiorilli drew a walk to start the game and advanced to second on a ground-out before being stranded in scoring position. Bloomsburg raced out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first following four-straight hits to start the inning. The Huskies added to the lead in the second with a grand slam to right center by outfielder Allie Wenrich with two outs.
In the third, Bloomsburg extended the lead to 11-0 by scoring four runs on five hits. Following a sacrifice fly for the second out of the inning, second baseman Taylor Kranzley delivered a two-run triple to cap the scoring. The Vulcans avoided the shutout in the fourth with senior second baseman
Kaitlyn Achtermeier reaching on a double and later scoring on a two-out double by Hollerich.
Senior starting pitcher
Taylor Babcock (8-9) suffered the loss after surrendering 11 runs (all earned) on 13 hits in 2.2 innings (64 pitches). Junior
Megan Nidoh worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief versus the Huskies.
Cal and Bloomsburg have met twice in the last three years at the PSAC Tournament.
