Tennis wins three flights at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 6) – Junior Leandra Guldimann won flights in both singles and doubles over the weekend, as the California (PA) tennis team competed at the Fall Flighted Championships hosted by Bloomsburg.

Guldimann and freshman Garance Laforet both won flights in singles, while Guldimann teamed with fellow junior Teddi Isherwood to capture a flight in doubles. The Vulcans earned a combined 20 victories at the event with all eight entries earning at least one win.

At singles flight #2, Guldimann posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the finals over Carissa Shepard of Seton Hill. She opened the session with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ximena Bolanos of Shepherd before claiming a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Jen McDonald of the host Huskies.

In doubles flight #1, Guldimann and Isherwood tallied a 6-1 win in the finals against Millersville. The Vulcans posted a 6-3 victory in the opening round against Shippensburg before earning a 6-1 win against Edinboro in the semifinals.

Laforet received a first-round bye in singles flight #5 and rallied to earn a pair of victories, including a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over Lia Sophie Seel of Bloomsburg in the finals.

Sophomore Lilli Schreiber advanced to the finals in singles flight #4 following victories over Alexandra Wolf of Seton Hill and Rafaella De Almeida of Edinboro. Isherwood posted a 4-2, 5-4 win in the third-place match of singles flight #1 against Lexi Quackenbush of the Huskies.

Senior Carmen Duran and freshman Anika Hedrich also placed third in doubles flight #3 following a 6-3 victory over the tandem from Millersville.

The Vulcans return to dual play on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they play a pair of road matches against Grove City and Allegheny, both NCAA Division III programs in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Grove City defeated Allegheny in the PAC Championship last fall.
