CALIFORNIA (Sept. 14) – The Vulcans recorded a 0-0 scoreless tie against Slippery Rock on Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the tie, the California (PA) women's soccer team improves to 1-2-2 overall behind a 1-1-2 mark in league play. The Vulcans snapped an eight-game losing streak in the series with The Rock and registered their first shutout in the series since the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock moves to 1-1-5 this season with a 0-1-4 record in divisional action.
The Vulcans mounted an early attack in Rock territory with a corner kick and shot attempt in the third minute. Slippery Rock then narrowly missed taking the lead with back-to-back headers that both deflected off the crossbar. Lindsie Galbreath (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) was saved by a diving Rock defender after Galbreath beat a charging challenge by the Slippery Rock goalkeeper. Midway through the first half, the teams traded a shot attempt in just over a minute before sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Ouimet (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) tallied a save in the 30th minute to mark the final shot before the break.
Early in the second half, Cal pressured the Slippery Rock net with four shots and three corner kicks in the opening five minutes. The Vulcans again threatened in the 75th minute with a shot on goal by sophomore

Miranda Frank (Santee, Calif./Santana) was unable to convert a rebound opportunity. Slippery Rock made a final push to break the scoreless tie in the 86th minute with a corner kick resulting in a header going left of the net.
Ouimet recorded her third shutout of the season, already eclipsing her total from last season. She posted a pair of saves while facing nine shots on Wednesday.
The Vulcans and Rock both attempted nine shots in the contest with Cal tallying six shots in the second half. The teams also both registered five corner kicks in the scoreless tie.
Cal continues its homestand on Saturday, Sept. 17, by hosting Mercyhurst in league action at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility with play starting at 1 p.m. The Lakers finished first in the PSAC West standings last year and again lead the divisional standings this fall.
