CALIFORNIA (Oct. 1) – The California (Pa) volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss (25-13, 25-18, 25-16) loss to Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Saturday afternoon in the Convocation Center.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 8-7 overall behind a 2-4 record in league play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 14-4 this season with a 4-2 mark in conference action after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year.

Kaylin Burkey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) led the team with 10 kills while hitting at a .250 clip and freshman
Adrianna Favata (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) contributed to the offense with 15 assists. Junior
Emily Buwawa (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) paced the defense with a team-high 10 digs, while senior
Chelsea Howard (Atlanta, Ga./North Atlanta), junior
Alayja Floyd (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and sophomore
Allie Droneberger (North Beach, Md./Northern) each tallied multiple blocks.
In the first set, Edinboro held a 10-6 lead until Cal answered with three-consecutive points to trim the deficit to 10-9 on a kill by Burkey. The Fighting Scot executed a 10-2 run to seize a 20-11 advantage. Edinboro then scored three of the next five points and eventually finished the set with a kill and an attacking error, 25-13.
As the second set commenced, the Vulcans grasped an early 5-2 lead until the Fighting Scots constructed a 10-5 run to take a 12-10 lead. The teams traded the next eight points followed by a 7-2 run from Edinboro to stretch the advantage to 23-16. The teams exchanged the last four points of the set with the Fighting Scots claiming the set, 25-18.
The Fighting Scots seized the early momentum in the third set, as they led by a 13-5 margin. Cal gathered momentum with a pair of points off errors from Edinboro. The teams traded the next six points until Droneberger and Floyd ended the exchange with a block. The Fighting Scots answered with three-consecutive points to extend their lead to 19-11. The Vulcans gained their footing by scoring five of the next eight points, however, Edinboro scored three-straight points to take the set, 25-16.
Cal returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 4, as it hosts Slippery Rock in conference play at 7 p.m.
