Cal U edged by Seton Hill, 4-3

CALIFORNIA (April 27) – Despite splitting singles play on Saturday afternoon, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss against Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Senior Day at Roadman Park.
 
With the loss, the Vulcans close the season with a 5-10 record behind a 1-5 mark in divisional play. Meanwhile, the Griffins improve to 7-10 overall with a 3-3 record in league action.
 
Seton Hill opened the contest by claiming two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 advantage. At the first position, freshmen Jo Weisen  (Bereldange, Luxembourg/Sportlycee) and Carolin Ganahl (Grafing, Germany/Gymnasium Grafing) posted a 6-1 victory against Cameron Beer and Ana Salazar. Junior Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorara) and senior Elizabeth Wohar (California, Pa./California) fell by a 6-3 margin to Kaitlyn Walch and Marlayna Verenna at the second slot. In third doubles, junior McKenzie Wilson (Traralgon, Australia/St. Paul's Anglican) and freshman Fulvia Camargo (South Park, Pa./South Park) suffered a 6-0 loss versus Abby Herman and Immanuella Odiong.
 
Seton Hill clinched the match victory by winning three of the six singles matches on Saturday. In the first slot, Weisen rallied back to secure a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory against Beer. Weisen finished the season with a team-leading 10 wins in singles action, including eight at the first position. Ganahl posted a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set victory over Salazar at second singles and Gallagher battled in a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 loss versus Walch in the third slot. At the fourth position, Wohar earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Herman, while sophomore Alexa Uhlyar (Finleyville, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Verenna at fifth doubles. Camargo fell by a 6-0, 6-2 margin against Odiong in the sixth position.
